There is a lot of controversy surrounding the origins of the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (EBJD).  Regarded by many as one of (if not the) most attractive tropical freshwater fish available in the aquarium hobby today, the story of this fish's appearance in the trade has become the stuff of internet legend.  Aquarists the world over are strongly divided in their opinions about its true origins.  Some people claim that these fish are the result of hybrid crosses between different cichlid species from Central America (much like Flowerhorns and Blood Parrots).  Others believe that the EBJD is a recessive colour morph of pure jack dempsey origin.  

 

There are good arguments to support both hypotheses, but the jury is still out.  Hopefully, by reading the information in this site, you will be able to form your own opinion concerning this debate and also perhaps learn a little more about this beautiful fish.
